Hortense Schulze
about 1861 - 1906
Hortense Schulze, circa 1900, about age 39
from the San Francisco Call; March 27, 1907; pg 4
Hortense Schulze was a popular photographer of children in San Francisco’s Chinatown from roughly 1899 to 1903. Throughout her adult life, Hortense was considered a portrait artist and a successful businesswoman.
Little has been published about Hortense Schulze’s background and much of what has been published is confusing or incorrect. I am hoping that this biography remedies much of that and consolidates what’s available in the public record.
