Antonio (“Tony”) Cuaz
(1867 - 1919)

Tony Cuaz, circa 1916, about age 49
from Denver Post; Denver, Colorado; June 15, 1919

Tony Cuaz was an assayer who trafficked in stolen high-grade gold ore. He regularly used aliases and blind mail drops. He shot his first wife and her mother because they taunted him. He remarried and seemingly abandoned his second wife. He setup a counterfeit operation inside the Colorado State Penitentiary.

Tony worked with my great-grandfather. They worked together on a conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government. From the news articles, court transcripts and other records, it seemed like Tony Cuaz might have been the ringleader. This history dives further into the life of Tony Cuaz and those around him.
